and Crestmoor Scholarship Reminder

2020 Crestmoor Scholarship Application Deadline:

 Tuesday, March 3

Last chance to apply for the 2020 Crestmoor Neighborhood Memorial ScholarshipThe application deadline is next Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.

The Crestmoor Scholarship honors the community members who most directly endured the destruction of the 2010 gas pipeline explosion and resulting fire and especially in memory of the eight San Bruno residents who lost their lives in the disaster. The Foundation intends to distribute $190,000 in multi-year scholarships this spring, in part thanks to a $70,000 donation from the Joseph W Welch Jr Foundation.

High school seniors headed to college and community college students planning to transfer to a four-year college in the fall of 2020 are eligible to apply. Applicants must live or attend a high school or community college located in San Bruno.

Scholarship recipients must demonstrate, as the top criterion, deep engagement and involvement in the San Bruno community. Other factors that will be considered during the selection process include, in no particular order, an applicant's financial need, extracurricular activities, academic record, and examples of leadership, teamwork, and collaboration.

Board to Receive Presentation

on San Bruno Recreation and Aquatics Center Project

The Foundation's Board of Directors will hold its regular monthly meeting on March 4, 2020. As usual, it will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the San Bruno Senior Center, 1555 Crystal Springs Road. The agenda is posted below, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Of note, the meeting will include a presentation on one of the major projects the Foundation is funding - the design and construction of a new Recreation and Aquatics Center in San Bruno Park. A team from the City of San Bruno and its project consultants - headed by City Manager Jovan Grogan and architects at Group 4 Architecture, Research + Planning, Inc. - will give an update on the project's overall progress and its Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The City has prepared the Draft EIR as part of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process, which requires the City to identify the significant environmental impacts of the project and outline plans to avoid or mitigate those impacts, if possible.

The Board will consider a recommendation from the Audit Committee to select a certified public accounting firm to conduct the Foundation's fiscal year 2019-2020 audit and prepare its tax returns, discuss a proposal for a one-year extension of the Music Education Strategic Initiative, and receive updates on the Community Grants Fund, the Crestmoor Neighborhood Memorial Scholarship program, and the Foundation's other strategic grants. The Investment Committee will report on its recent meeting and activities.

The complete Board meeting packet, including the agenda for the special meeting, is available for download at A hard copy of the complete packet will be available for public review with the City Clerk at San Bruno City Hall and at the San Bruno Public Library.

The Board very much encourages, appreciates, and values your attendance and participation at our Board meetings. As is our practice, we will send out a summary of the meeting's highlights in our March e-newsletter, which will also be posted on our website at
