State Senator Becker AI Town Hall July 16 2026
Article Source: CA State Senator Josh Becker
Dear Friends,
Our district is an epicenter of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
development and many of you have questions and concerns about its
effects on the future of work and employment. Last year, my Select
Committee on Economic Development and Technological Innovation held a
hearing to listen to experts looking at the impact of AI on the labor
market. On Thursday, July 16th I am hosting a similar forum for you.
Please join me for Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work,
a virtual town hall. We’ll discuss pertinent questions to try to
understand how we’re seeing AI play out in the economy now, and what
the economy could look like in the future.
I’ll be joined by nationally recognized expert panelists:
- Dr. Bharat Chandar, Postdoctoral
Researcher at the Stanford Digital Economy Lab and Institute for
Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and co-author of “Canaries in the Coal Mine,” which gave us some of the first insights into how this period of change is affecting workers.
- Dr. Jane Wu, Assistant Professor in the Strategy group at UCLA Anderson School of Management, and co-author of “Some Simple Economics of AGI.”
- Mitchell L. Stevens,
Professor at Stanford and an organizational sociologist focused on
educational sequences, lifelong learning, alternative educational
forms, and the formal organization of knowledge. He convenes the
Pathways Network and the Futures Project on Education and the Learning
Society.
AI as a technology has many potential benefits,
and many potential risks. We are already seeing early impacts on
certain segments of the workforce. This year, I’ll be doing a series of
town halls on a wide range of AI-related topics to understand what the
experts are seeing, and what information we still need. I hope to see
you at our first AI Town Hall on July 16th!
Please RSVP here.
Sincerely,
Josh Becker
