WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW
Hi CalMatters reader,
Last week, Gov. Gavin Newsom took
action on his final batch of bills as California governor. The
Legislature sent 1,160 bills to his desk on a wide range of topics,
from regulating
AI and cracking
down on data centers to curbing DUI
deaths and banning
child marriage.
The CalMatters politics team closely
followed Newsom’s
final bill signings and vetoes. In this special edition of My
Legislator, we’re highlighting the fate of the bills that your state
senator and assemblymember authored during the 2025-2026 session.
Below, you’ll see which of their bills
Newsom signed into law or vetoed and which ones never made it out of
the Legislature.
Most of the new laws will take effect
at the start of the year.
As we approach the midterm elections,
you likely won’t hear from us until the new year. The next legislative
session starts when new members are sworn into office on December 7.
The Legislature will then go on recess before reconvening in
January.
