All Aboard the Holiday Train for the First Time Dec. 13
Beloved holiday classic reinvented as an on-board experience, allowing children of all ages to experience the magic of the holidays and Caltrain at the same time
On Saturday, Dec. 13, the Holiday Train will
be reinvented as an on-board experience as it rings in the holiday
season from San Jose to San Francisco and back again. Tickets will go
on sale starting at noon on Thursday, Nov. 20, for both the northbound and southbound trips.
Ticket
holders will be able to ride the Holiday Train for the first time,
where they will enjoy a beautifully decorated interior, carols
performed by Ensemble Continuo, a reading of holiday stories, arts and
crafts and even a visit from Santa himself. The Holiday Train will be
making a total of eight stops in each direction, serving community
events like San Mateo on Ice, Hometown Holidays, the German Holiday Market, the South Bay Historical Railroad Society, and Christmas in the Park.
Caltrain is partnering with Real Options for City Kids (ROCK), Samaritan House and the Bill Wilson Center to
support the Holiday Train and will share some of the proceeds from the
sale of tickets with the non-profits as well as providing tickets to
the clients they serve.
Prior
to the arrival of the Holiday Train, families can enjoy free
entertainment at station stops at San Francisco, San Mateo, Palo Alto
and San Jose Diridon Stations. These station events are open to the
public and will be the only stations where ticket holders are allowed
to board the Holiday Train.
Since
2002, Caltrain’s Holiday Train has been a cherished Bay Area tradition,
bringing festive cheer and community spirit to the corridor each year.
With the exciting arrival of Caltrain’s new electric fleet, this
beloved event is evolving to reflect a new era of cleaner, quieter, and
more sustainable travel. While the previous show train format using a
decorated diesel train is changing, the magic of the season continues
through the new onboard electric train experience and family friendly
station celebrations at four stations throughout the corridor.
