Supporting
Economic Development |
|
Staff delivered presentations on proposals to
support the growth of businesses and new opportunities in San Bruno to
the City Council (in July) and the Planning Commission (in August), and
they were pleased to see our proactive work balancing the demands of
the State and the needs of the community. |

National Night Out
With The New Chief |
|
I joined Chief
Lethin and members of the City Council earlier this month at National
Night Out.
|
|
Despite the heat, we were joined by various community
groups and staff members, and it was great to see our neighbors out and
about. |

Newly Renovated
Florida Avenue Park Unveiled |
|
Another
huge milestone -- on Thursday, August 14, the community gathered to
celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Florida Avenue Park
in San Bruno. The event kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony,
followed by an evening of fun, community connection, and sweet treats
from Mister Softee. Families and neighbors had the chance to explore
the park’s new features, including upgraded play areas and outdoor
fitness equipment, marking an exciting development for the San Bruno
community. The park is officially open to the public, so we hope
you will continue visiting it and getting value from it.
|
|
As always, thank you for your continued support and
enthusiasm, and we hope to see you in the community. |

FISCAL
YEAR 2025-2026 BUDGET UPDATE |
|
|
Since
the budget process has completed, the City is sharing the Council's
updated priorities for this fiscal year. If you want a high level
summary of what's going right, please check out the Budget-in-Brief.
The City Council's Priority Initiatives
Another key part of the budget is to ensure each of the City Council’s
priority initiatives are funded and worked on each year. This includes
initiatives which are still in progress and have been carried over into
the coming fiscal year. The City Council’s new priority initiatives for
this year include:
- Mitigating illegal dumping
through the “Cleanup San Bruno” initiative (ongoing effort)
- Establishing a communication and
engagement program (target completion for this Winter)
- Completing Phase 2A of the
Regulated Output (RO) Streetlight Retrofit project (on-hold pending
budget considerations)
- Performing a strategic analysis
of major City-owned properties
- Hosting Chamber of Commerce style
activities (ongoing effort)
- Monitoring and improving parking and
street lighting along San Mateo Avenue
- Installing path lights and parking
lights at the Diamond #2 and overflow parking lot near the Recreation
and Aquatic Center
The
full list of priorities are available inside this year's budget book.

SAN
BRUNO-NARITA SISTER CITIES UPDATE |
|
|
This past July, we completed the San Bruno-Narita
Sister City program for 2025 after our delegation of 10 students from
the San Bruno Parkside Intermediate School visited Japan. |
|
The students participated in a range of activities,
including:
- pulling a mikoshi during the Narita
Gion Festival
- trying meditation and calligraphy
- visiting a Japanese middle school
- hiking up to a beautifully scary vista
at Nokogiriyama
and much more! |
|
If you are interested in learning more about the program,
staff and the San Bruno Park School District will present to the San
Bruno Community Foundation and the San Bruno City Council during their
regular meetings in September.
- San Bruno Community Foundation: Wednesday,
September 3, at 7:00 PM
- San Bruno City Council: Tuesday,
September 23, at 7:00 PM
Both meetings will be held at the Recreation and Aquatic Center on 251
City Park Way on the 2nd floor. |
|
Next Steps
The City and the school district are exploring ways to support the
longevity of this program. The continuation of the program has been
possible with a generous grant from the San Bruno Community Foundation.
Currently, City of San Bruno staff are in communication with the City
of Narita to finalize the time window for their March visit in 2026 and
the number of students that will be hosted. |
|
The
City continues to make improvements to San Bruno’s Downtown Paid
Parking Program in response to community feedback and City Council
direction.
Morning Paid Parking Eliminated on Downtown
Streets
Parking kiosks were reprogrammed to eliminate paid parking between 8:00
a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on downtown on-street spaces, making it easier for
morning visitors to access businesses. Temporary stickers reflecting
the new hours have been installed, with permanent signage to follow.
Full-Time Meter Technician Added
A contract amendment was recently executed with LAZ Parking to add a
full-time Meter Maintenance Technician. This new position will kick off
this Summer and will enhance daily meter inspections, repairs, and
customer service—improving reliability and responsiveness across the
parking system.
Mobile Parking App Coming Soon
The City has released an RFP to select a vendor for a mobile parking
payment application. Once implemented, the app will allow drivers to
manage parking sessions remotely. Launch is targeted for this Winter.
|
|
Paid Parking Removed from El Camino Real
Following City Council direction, all 21 kiosks on El Camino Real were
removed, and new signs with a two-hour parking time limit were
installed. The removed kiosks will be stored as spares for use in other
paid parking zones.
Holiday Payment Error Resolved
On July 4, kiosks mistakenly charged for parking due to a programming
issue. The City is refunding affected payments and has implemented a
new process to prevent future errors. The holiday schedule is now
current through January 1, 2026. |

County and the community.
