COASTAL CLEANUP 2020
Coastal Cleanup 2020 is just around the corner and the environment needs your help now more than ever to pick up litter pollution in September! How and when you can participate are different this year due to COVID-19, but the essential goal of protecting our environment from litter is still the same. Find out how you can participate and "Protect Your Happy Place" safely this year with details below.

WHEN: Coastal Cleanup 2020 is now EVERY Saturday in September!
Saturday, September 5th
Saturday, September 12th
Saturday, September 19th
Saturday, September 26th

WHERE: Individuals, households, and social bubbles are encouraged to clean up litter in their local neighborhoods. Cleanups in large groups are not allowed this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
(Watch this short VIDEO & read the details below.)

1. Pick a Saturday in September, or dedicate all four to picking up litter in your neighborhood with your household or social bubble.

2.Select a team in the city you live in and RSVP directly with a virtual site captain at smchealth.org/ccd.

3. Prepare your own buckets, bags, gloves or litter grabbers, reusable water bottle, and sunscreen to pick up litter. Gloves may be provided by your virtual site captain upon request.

4.Download the Clean Swell app in the Apple Store or Google Play before the event so you are all set to record litter you collect.

5. Read the latest San Mateo County Health Officer Order and safety protocols to protect yourself from COVID-19 exposure during the cleanup.

6. Record litter using the Clean Swell app. Your data will help let us know how much litter was picked up by every volunteer participating in California!

WEEKLY CONTEST PRIZE ALERT! Post an image of you, your household, or social bubble participating in Coastal Cleanup 2020 on Facebook or Twitter, and be entered to win a weekly prize. A winner will be selected and contacted through direct messaging to claim their prize weekly following the event each Tuesday, September 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.
