Renovation Of Baseball Field Honoring Bob Greenberg

Article Source:  David Nigel

On a beautiful, sunny day at Commodore Park’s Greenberg Field,  a wonderful dedication and celebration took place acknowledging the reconstruction and renovation of the baseball field honoring Bob Greenberg.

Bob and his wife Lorry, both City of San Bruno Park and Recreation Commissioners, started the Junior Giants baseball program here in San Bruno.

Upon Bob’s passing in 2006, the San Bruno City Council named the field in honor and memory of Bob.

Lorry has carried on as Junior Giants Commissioner for twenty-seven years and has retired from that position this past year; even though she continues her involvement and commitment.

The San Francisco Giants honored Lorry by inducting her into the Junior Giants “Hall of Fame” with notables such as the great Willie Mays and Willie McCovey to list two celebrities.

San Francisco Giants play-by-play sportscaster did a notable job serving as Master of Ceremonies.

A very inspirational speech was delivered by our very active Mayor Rico Medina.

Also speaking were officials of the San Francisco Giants, as well as Brian Murphy of KNBR radio sportscaster spoke to the crowd but directed his comments mainly to the youth who were present.

Everyone was excited by the presence and antics of the Giants’ mascot… “Lou Seal.”

The keynote speaker was pitcher Alex Wood, who the night prior was the winning pitcher against the visiting Kansas City Royals.

Many dignitaries were present including Councilman Marty Medina, Michael Salazar and Tom Hamilton… as well as representation from the San Bruno Lions and Rotary Clubs.

Much gratitude was extended to the sponsors and financial contributors including the San Bruno Community Foundation.

Caping off the ceremonies, the event concluded with a barbecue lunch provide by two of our active and supportive service clubs; The San Bruno Lions Club and the San Bruno Rotary Club.
