Redwood City — San Mateo County’s Human Services Agency has released itsFY 2024-25 Annual Report, highlighting a
year of collaboration and accomplishments in supporting vulnerable
residents through housing, employment, public assistance, child welfare
and other essential services. Director
Claire Cunningham said the report reflects the agency’s dedication,
compassion, and strong partnerships within the agency, across sectors
and with the community it serves.
“I’m
proud to share our report, highlighting the impact we’ve made together
with our community, partners and staff. This year’s report reflects our
unwavering commitment to strengthening families, expanding opportunity,
and building a more equitable future for all who call San Mateo County
home,” Cunningham said.
Among the achievements noted in the report:
The Economic Self-Sufficiency branch assisted more than 189,000 Medi-Cal clients and nearly 49,200 CalFresh clients.
The Center on Homelessness helped 1,187 families move into housing and sheltered 2,781 clients through community partnerships.
Vocational
Rehabilitation Services served more than 98,000 meals at the Navigation
Center, creating hands-on training opportunities for program
participants.
Children
and Family Services celebrated a 90 percent foster youth high school
graduation rate, outpacing the statewide average of 75 percent.
The
report, however, is more than data; it is the stories of real people
served by the agency. One father participating in the Bringing Families
Home program describes how it changed his family’s life.
“We
were living on the streets, my sons were giving up hope, and I was
desperate. Thanks to the program, we are growing healthier and happier
together as a family in our home,” he said.
A
trainee in the Catering Connection culinary program at the Navigation
Center said the work has “reinvigorated” her and she looks forward to
becoming a chef at a local restaurant.
