Major Streetlight Outage in Crestmoor 1 and 3 Neighborhoods |
During
Thursday's storm, a major outage knocked out power for several hours in
the entire Crestmoor 1 neighborhood, the Shelter Creek apartment
complex, and several streets near Princeton in the Crestmoor 3
neighborhood for several hours. After PG&E restored power to the
neighborhoods, city staff confirmed late Thursday night that a major RO
failure occurred affecting all 27 streetlights on the circuit (see map). As I reported previously, our outdated RO streetlights have been repaired multiple times and continue to fail after storm-related events.
The
affected neighborhoods are already part of the current RO solar
streetlight replacement project, which includes the Rollingwood and
Crestmoor neighborhoods. Installations were originally proposed for the
Crestmoor neighborhood to happen later, during the final phase of the
project, given that the streetlights in the neighborhood were
previously functional. However, due to the current large-scale outage,
project installation timing is being modified so that solar lights can
be installed in the affected areas more quickly.
Details
regarding the upcoming changes are being finalized now and a letter
notifying residents in advance of the upcoming phase of the project
will be sent to all affected addresses, and of course I'll report those
details to you in an upcoming newsletter. |
City Council Meetings, February 11, 2025 |
Recreation and Aquatics Center, City Park |
- Closed Session: Labor Negotiations
|
- San Bruno Community Foundation check presentation for Library Summer Reading Program
- Consider
repeal of local ordinances related to permitting for Tobacco retailers
and replacing it by adopting the San Mateo County Ordinance Code for
Tobacco Retailer Permits. The County adopted stricter policies for
tobacco retailers last year and this action is necessary to allow
continued administration and enforcement of retail tobacco permits. The
alternatives to adopting the County ordinances are to either stop
enforcing tobacco ordinances for retailers altogether (this is a
nonstarter for me) or spin up our own local program, which would cost
the City approximately $250,000 annually, and passing this cost on to
the retailers would likely increase their yearly permit fees from
around $1,000 to over $8,500.
