City Council Meetings, June 24, 2025 |
Recreation and Aquatics Center, City Park |
- Closed Session: Conference with Legal Counsel (Existing Litigation)
- Closed Sessions: Annual Performance Evaluations for City Manager and City Attorney
|
- We'll hold a Public Hearing on Annual Sewer Charges for FY 2025-26 and Delinquent Sewer Charges from FY 2024-25
- Last
year San Bruno became one of the last cities in the county to move
sewer charges to the property tax rolls...this move will save the city
hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in collections as the County
reimburses the city 100% for the charges and is responsible for the
collections. Our sewer rates were not increased as part of this move,
and you can view what this year's charge on your property tax will be
for your address in the agenda packet beginning on page 64. I recommend opening the PDF file and searching for your address.
- We'll
hold a second Public Hearing on the FY2025-26 Capital Improvement
Budget and Approval of our FY 2025-26 Budget, which will go into effect
on July 1.
- At
our last council meeting on June 10, I proposed and gained council
majority support to remove a $250K study of the Residential Parking
Permit Program from the 25-26 budget, and reallocating those funds to
other projects. As someone who has worked on the RPPP for nearly a
decade since my days on the Traffic Safety and Parking Committee, I am
not confident that the expensive study would result in a program that a
majority of residents would want, since every version of the program
we've looked at would result in residents paying for permits, being
limited on how many permits they can get regardless of how many are
needed in a household, and still not being guaranteed a parking space
due to the number of cars legally in our neighborhoods.
After
discussion the council agreed that the funds will instead be used for
three lighting projects (two in City park to improve pathway lighting
near Diamond 2 and add badly-needed lighting between the RAC and the
parking lot near St. Anthony's, and improved lighting in our downtown
parking lots) and for sponsoring Chamber of Commerce-style events to
promote our local businesses. I believe this is a much better use of
our limited operating funds as these projects will provide immediate
benefit to our community, unlike a study that would likely sit on the
shelf and not be implemented.
- We'll provide additional direction to staff on amending the downtown paid parking program.
- At
our May 27 council meeting we directed staff to work on amending the
downtown paid parking hours to now start at 10AM, to fund staffing for
regular maintenance for the meters (which has already resulted in
improved reliability for the meters), and to find a better option for
mobile payment for parking. We did not receive majority support for
removing the largely unused kiosks on El Camino Real nor for piloting a
short-term option in the city lots; however Councilmember Alvarez was
absent from the meeting, and during our June 10 meeting she asked that
these two items be brought back for consideration at this Tuesday's
meeting.

Citywide Bicycle Route Installation Project Completion |
We recently completed a project to implement approximately 20 miles of Class 3 bike routes citywide, consistent with the City’s Walk ’n Bike Plan. Improvements
included sharrows, signage, speed feedback signs, traffic diverters,
and traffic-calming measures to enhance safety and promote alternative
transportation. Here is a detailed map of the streets included in the
project. |
Commodore Park Well Replacement Project Underway |
The
City's contractor, Roadrunner Drilling and Pump Company, recently began
work on the Acappella Well Project (Commodore Park Well Replacement)
here in District 2. The new well will provide safe drinking water and
will help reduce the City's reliance on SFPUC water. This phase of the
project includes construction of the new production well and
abandonment of the inactive well. This will include a one-week, 24-hour
drilling period to avoid risk of poor well performance. Phase I is
scheduled for completion in Fall 2025. Phase II of the project will
include the design and construction of the well equipment area. Phase
II design is scheduled for completion in Summer 2026. For more
information on the Acappella Well Project, please visit the project
