Police
Changes Related to BART Fare Evasion Gates |
|
From
the City Manager's Office: In August, BART, with involvement from our Council
and City staff, rolled out new and improved fare gates designed to discourage
fare evasion. Now that we have had them in place for 3 months, the Police
Department has conducted an analysis of crime data related to the BART
station. When
compared to 2024 data, we found the following: |
|
|
While
these reductions are encouraging, and they aligned with what our officers are
experiencing, they also match declines that started before implementation of
the fare gates. This means we cannot definitively state that the new fare
gates are solely responsible for these improvements – but they do seem
strongly related and helpful to improving public safety. Due to
these improvements, the Police Department will be changing practices and
discontinuing the BART detail (where officers work at the BART station), to
redirect officers to bolster traffic enforcement and hot-spot crime
suppression efforts. This means we can better direct our staffing to where
the trending issues are for the betterment of San Bruno. |

San
Bruno Joins County's VLF Lawsuit Against the State |
|
Presented
by the San Bruno Education Foundation |
|
Friday,
December 5th at 5pm, Parkside School |
|
San
Bruno joined all 20 cities in San Mateo County in the County of San Mateo’s
lawsuit against the state of California to recover a $38 million vehicle
license fee funding shortfall. These funds are shared by the County and
cities for programs and services such as health care, public safety and
affordable housing. This
year, local governments only received $76.5 million of the $114.3 million
owed under a state funding formula. Mono County and Alpine County, facing
similar shortfalls, have also joined the lawsuit. Learn more here. |
