San Bruno Creek and Flood Protection Update

I’m sharing some information regarding the maintenance activity along the canal behind 7th Avenue. I toured the area with OneShoreline staff this morning. SFO is continuing maintenance on its West of Bayshore property, including removing sediment, cattails, downed trees and other material from the channel between San Bruno Avenue and the Angus Pump Station.

Gravel has also been placed on the access road to help control weed growth. This portion is nearing completion north of the Angus pump station.

Due to the endangered species (California Red Legged Frog and San Francisco Garter Snake) the work takes much longer to complete.

OneShoreline is scheduled to complete additional hand clearing of cattails and downed trees by the end of the month for the segment of the creek south of the Angus pump station and a generator is also planned for placement near Walnut Avenue as a additional contingency measure.

Work is also moving forward on longer-term flood protection improvements. This includes concept design and environmental review for improvements to the Angus Pump Station, coordination with San Bruno’s Storm Drain Master Plan, and approximately $226,000 secured from Caltrans for the 7th Avenue Stormwater Project Concept Design.

That project will include community involvement as the design moves forward. This is important work for District 4. I will continue working with San Bruno staff, OneShoreline, SFO and our regional partners to improve drainage, reduce flood risk and keep residents informed.
