On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, San Brunan Mike Murphy,
retired Clubhouse Manager and affiliated with the San Francisco Giants for
sixty-three years was inducted in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame at
Cooperstown, New York.
Mike, or as he is affectionately called “Murph,”
distinguished himself and was beloved by the Giants players, management, and
fans during his tenue with the Giants from 1960-2023. Mike’s dedication is
evidenced by the fact that he never missed a home game.
He is a native San Franciscan and attended Balboa High
School. In recognition of his lifelong commitment to the organization, the
Giants’ clubhouse at Oracle Park is named “Mike Murphy Clubhouse.”
Mike began his career in baseball as bat boy for the San
Francisco Seals (AAA) from 1954-1957, before becoming the Giants’ bat boy
during the 1958-1959 season. He became visiting clubhouse attendant in 1960
when the club moved to Candlestick Park, a job he held until his promotion in 1980.
Murphy and his wife, Carole, live in San Bruno. They are
very close to their children Andrea and Michele, granddaughter Tori-Lynn and
loved Bows, the clubhouse dog.
Mike has written a comprehensive book entitled: “From
the Stick to the Cove.” This book describes Mike’s six decades with the
San Francisco Giants with fond memories of all the regular and “Hall of Fame”
players and colleagues during his tenure.
