Peninsula Clean Energy Locks In 10% Discount Amid Rising Energy Rates

Latest multi-year move by the agency to provide bill relief to customers

REDWOOD CITY, CA – January 28, 2026 – Peninsula Clean Energy’s Board of Directors approved electric generation rates for customers in San Mateo County and the City of Los Banos that remain 10 percent below PG&E amid a broader trend of rising energy costs across the region.

“In a time of rising energy costs across California, Peninsula Clean Energy continues to deliver what our customers want and deserve: Cleaner electricity at a lower price,” Peninsula Clean Energy CEO Shawn Marshall said.

The Board’s action comes after PG&E began shifting rates in January, including for the delivery of both gas and electricity for all customers.

“We know that rising costs for essential services are putting a strain on family and business budgets. As part of our public service mission, we’re dedicated to helping our customers save on monthly power bills which have increased yet again,” said Donna Colson, Burlingame Councilmember and Chair of Peninsula Clean Energy’s Board of Directors.

This continues Peninsula Clean Energy’s multi-year trend of providing significant rate relief to customers amid rising PG&E costs.

Peninsula Clean Energy’s Board of Directors also lowered electricity generation rates last year to give its customers a 10-25 percent discount compared to generation rates charged by PG&E. In 2024, the Board froze its electricity generation rates in response to PG&E’s 15-percent rate increase at the time.

Since 2016, Peninsula Clean Energy has offered its customers a discount of at least five percent below PG&E’s baseline electric generation rate, saving its customers $225 million since its inception

Peninsula Clean Energy also offers a variety of customer energy programs to lower costs, incentives to replace old gas appliances, and rebates to make the switch to electric homes and transportation. Peninsula Clean Energy appears as a separate line item on customer PG&E bills, replacing a higher charge imposed by PG&E for generating power. PG&E still charges all customers, including those receiving Peninsula Clean Energy-generated power, for delivering the electricity and for gas service.
