City of San Bruno Announces Appointment of New Fire Chief Ari Delay to be the next San Bruno Fire Chief
City of San Bruno is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ari Delay as the new San Bruno Fire Chief. Delay will replace former Fire Chief Dave Cresta who retired this past December. Since former Chief Cresta’s retirement, Battalion Chief Mike Kennedy has served as the Acting Fire Chief.
“Chief Delay has demonstrated a strong sense of knowledge and experience in fire services and stood out as an excellent addition to lead the San Bruno Fire Department” Grogan said. Delay brings over 28 years of experience in the fire service and comes to San Bruno from the Coastside Fire Protection District / CAL FIRE in Half Moon Bay where he has served for the past 24 years as a Firefighter Paramedic, Fire Captain and Battalion Chief.
Delay has also served as Chief of the La Honda Fire Brigade and has worked for the U.S. Forest Service, CAL FIRE and the Coastside Fire Protection District in all ranks including Firefighter, Firefighter - Paramedic, Lieutenant, Captain, Captain - Paramedic, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief and Fire Chief.
Delay will be charged with leading the department's 35 full-time employees including four Battalion Chiefs, nine Captains, twenty one firefighters, and one administrative support staff.
“Being chosen to serve as fire chief for the City of San Bruno is a tremendous honor,” Delay said. “This is a team of highly skilled, dedicated professionals who serve a great community. While I will cherish my time on the coast, I look forward to serving the residents and visitors of San Bruno and supporting the amazing team here in San Bruno” Delay said.
Delay was born in La Honda, CA where he resides with his wife Julie and his two children. He begins his service with San Bruno on Tuesday, February 18.
