US 101 Lombard Street Daytime Lane Closures

U.S. 101 Lombard Street Daytime Lane Closures
Noise and Delays Anticipated for Roadway Improvements

SAN FRANCISCO – Caltrans Bay Area has scheduled daytime lane closures going forward from Monday, March 15, 2021 through July 2021, conditions permitting. Work will take place Monday through Friday on Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) U.S. 101 Lombard Street between U.S. 101 Van Ness Ave and Lyon Street for a series of roadway improvements.
  • NB 101:  Monday through Friday, 7 AM - 3 PM
  • SB 101:  Monday through Friday, 10 AM - 6 PM

The project will involve (1) replacing parking slabs / parking spots (2) grinding and repaving the roadway (3) upgrading various curb ramps to ADA standards (4) utility work (5) electrical work and (6) re-striping the lanes and crosswalk.

Lombard Street, approximately 1.4 miles in length with three lanes in both directions, is a heavily traveled local street connecting Marin County, San Francisco County, and the various San Francisco Districts. Approximately 10,300 vehicles per day travel in the NB direction and 13,400 vehicles per day in the SB direction.

The last roadway maintenance project took place approximately 30 years ago and Lombard Street has since developed various roadway imperfections. However, once this critical work is completed, motorists and residents will benefit from a smoother, safer drive for years to come.

We regret the noise and delays associated with the project and ask for motorists and residents to reduce their speeds approaching the project site and plan ahead. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to maintain our state roadways.
